Our client is a provider of specialist services to the Rail and Forestry sectors, who are committed to delivering excellent results by utilising innovative plant and machinery and industry-leading expertise.


Due to substantial growth over the last three years, our client is keen to engage with dynamic individuals to join the team, so they can continue to meet client requirements. Our client now has the opportunity for an experienced Harvesting/Grapple Saw Machine Operator to become the latest addition to the company.

The Role

  • Carry out mechanised tree felling/harvesting works, including use of a grapple saw, in clear fell, thinnings and Duty of Care (DoC) works.
  • Conduct all tasks to the highest standard, ensuring that sites are left tidy and safe.
  • Work harvesting machines at a good level of output without unnecessary idling or stoppage time.
  • Complete all forest operations in line with health, safety and environmental standards including site management plans and risk assessments.
  • Ensure machinery and tools are always used for their intended purpose and operated in line with safe operating procedures.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on the machine being operated and complete the relevant forms.
  • Meet production output targets.
  • Effectively communicate with the Forestry team and your line manager to meet the overall objectives of the team and ensure good working relationships.
  • Report any issues promptly to your line manager or the office, as appropriate.
  • Take or receive materials to/on site.
  • Report any incidents or Close Calls immediately to the appropriate person.
  • Attend meetings and undertake training as required by your manager or the Company.
  • Adhere to Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Be an ambassador for our client, upholding and reflecting the ethos and values of the Company.
  • Work in accordance with our client’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Company.

This is where you come in

  • Significant experience of large-scale mechanised harvesting operations, including operating a grapple saw, or similar
  • Harvester FMOCS qualified/CPCS tracked/wheeled machines
  • An excellent understanding of, and application of health, safety & environment practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, including GPS/GIS
  • Flexibility in your approach to work and problem-solving skills
  • Good level of physical fitness and mobility
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivated and a team player
  • Able and willing to work in inclement weather
  • Flexibility in your approach to work.
  • Full UK driving license.


  • NPTC in chainsaw use (maintenance, cross cutting and felling up to 380mm)
  • Driving licence category B+E (trailer towing)


  • 40 hours per week to be worked Monday – Friday.
  • Reports to Senior Forestry Manager

Candidates will be working across south England but would need to be based fairly close to our client’s Hampshire office, so in areas such as Hampshire, Surrey or Sussex. A3 corridor.
